So in your first scenario if a hard drive with the Guid for computer 56789 got put into the new computer 12345 that inventory would then show up assigned to Computer 56789. The Inventory serial number is the only thing that gets updated automatically if there is existing data. I am not even sure if that explanation makes sense, but hopefully it does. Machine #2: Inventory Serial = G05L9C1, Asset Serial = DN2M9C1Ĭould this have happened if a hard drive was switched between two machines? i don't know if that is what happened, but it is the only thing that i can think of that might have happened. Machine #1: Inventory Serial = DN2M9C1, Asset Serial = G05L9C1 I also have two machines where the inventory and the asset records have switched so it looks like this: I guess what I don't understand is how the inventory for 12345 got tied to asset serial 56789 when there was already a serial number in the system for 12345 that it should have merged with. I have a merge rule turned on that says to merge resources based on serial number.

However the inventory that is tied to 56789 is returning a serial number of 12345. And I do not have inventory tied to 12345 at all.

So that clears it up a little bit, but what if I have two asset records with two different serial numbers.
